my div style:

background-color:#FFEAFF;
*filter:alpha(opacity=90);
opacity:0.90;
-moz-opacity:0.90;
border:1px solid #FF0000;

its work perfectly, used in poringa.net

Useful tip:
It can happen that you want to make the background of a small div semi-transparent, but then the pictures and text will be semi-transparent too. You don’t want that!

It’s better to create a semi-transparent background tile in Photoshop or something. Save as PNG. Then select the PNG file as a background for your div and select ‘repeat’ if necessary.

Voila, you’ve got a div with a nice semi-transparent background, in which you can place images and text, without those being semi-transparent.

A transparent png as the background of the div will work well.
