Sams Teach Yourself CSS in 24 Hours
November 11th, 2005
This is the first CSS book I read. Indeed, in about 24 hours I had a pretty good idea of how to use CSS. During the early days when I was still learning CSS, this book was my CSS bible. I recommend this book to anyone who wants to get a quick basic idea of how to use CSS. It is easy to read and understand. This book is just the first step towards learning CSS.
When I got a job at ECommerce Partners, they asked me to learn how to use stylesheets. So, I had just two days before I started work to learn how to use stylesheets. This book helped me to start developing websites using CSS stylesheets. I was fascinated by some of the styles this book recommended such as how to create text shadow using stylesheets. I loved it and I remember using it when I did the HTML for BigCheesePCs.com (you will see that the page title “About Us” has a shadow. This has been created with CSS.).

Hi. I just wanted to tell you that I started reading your blog a few weeks ago and I really like it. You explain everything very well and make complicated things sound less intimidating. You discuss a good mix of simple and more complex coding. I’m trying to slowly teach myself how to code and your blog is helping me a lot. I also liked your post about Meditation - it was very persuasive! Please continue to post!

I have been an avid visitor to your website for the past couple of months and have enjoyed your articles. I have just started developing websites on a freelance basis and found your website very useful.
My clients have now asked me to come up with a quotation for optimizing their website. I do not know anything about search engine optimization. Please could you give me some guidance on this. Is it possible for me to do this myself, or should I use the service of a seo expert?
I appreciate your help.

Dear Prasitha,
I’m so glad that my website has been useful to you. My advice is: spend 2 days just reading about SEO and see if you enjoy it. If it’s not your cup of tea then refer them to an SEO expert.
If it’s intriguing, give it a shot. As a website designer, SEO knowledge will only help you and your clients’ websites. Also, if you get stuck while trying to optimize the website you can always ask for advice on various forums online. SEO is an art rather than science. There’s no fool proof formula. It works out with trial and error.
Thanks again,
Shruti
