Submit Website to Directories, Yellow Pages and Search Engines

November 17th, 2005

Internet is a network of links. The basis of search engines is to find and list all websites by following links. Hence, in order to increase the number of hits from search engine robots we do want our website URL to be listed in as many websites as possible. In fact, the first step after the launch of a website should be to get the website listed in as many directories and yellow pages as possible.

Now, this is what I do for all my SEO clients. As soon as their website is optimized, I begin the process of submission to directories and search engines. I make sure that I submit to search engines manually. I do not recommend using automatic submissions to search engines. I have to confess that it can be pretty monotonous job to submit website to directories and search engines but it is worth it. I prefer directories that do not require a reciprocal link and are free. The exceptions are directories that are popular, i.e. get high traffic and/or are listed on the first page of Google, Yahoo or MSN for the keywords you want to target.

Meanwhile, I send the list of yellow pages to my clients so that they can get themselves listed. Usually, getting your website listed in yellow pages will cost money. So, it depends on the client’s budget.

Here is a list of websites where you can either submit your website or you can find a list of directories and/or search engines. The following list is in alphabetical order.

If you have RSS feeds and/or blog on your website, you can submit them to the following directories/search engines. Again, the list is in alphabetical order.

Now, here is a list of yellow pages. Once again, the list is in alphabetical order.

I hope you find it helpful. Please leave me a note if there is any broken link or if you want me to list any directory or search engine or yellow pages here. I will be modifying the above lists as I discover more. So, watch this space …
