What is Kundalini?
August 8th, 2006
Kundalini is the residual divine energy within each of us. It is a feminine energy that lies dormant in the Sacrum Bone in three and a half coils until the moment when She is activated through the process of Self-Realization.
At the moment when the heart starts beating in the unborn fetus, this energy enters through the fontanel bone area and thus provides life. This is what connects the fetus to the All Pervading Divine power. When children are born the fontanel bone area is usually soft, partly to facilitate the birth process but as the child grows this Divine connection is broken and the residual Divine energy, i.e. the Kundalini goes to sleep in the Sacrum Bone. This results in the calcification of the fontanel bone area and consequently, the connection with the All Pervading Divine energy is broken.
Self-Realization is the only way to awaken the Kundalini and to make Her pass through the seven centers of energy in our body that is represented as the seven plexuses and that are called Chakras in Sanskrit. This re-establishes our connection with the Divine energy, hence, we can be said to be born again.
In order to maintain this connection we need to meditate everyday and to try to become a balanced personality. During meditation, the Kundalini cleans and balances each and every Chakra. As a Chakra is cleared, it starts functioning efficiently and as a result, the physical and emotional aspects related to each Chakra come into balance. Hence, Kundalini is our guide within us that helps us gain spiritual evolution.
How do we attain Self-Realization? This is indeed a billion dollar question, one that has absorbed seekers of truth over many millennia. Such people have struggled through many centuries to achieve Self-Realization and historically, very few managed it until Shri Mataji Nirmala Devi, the greatest practitioner of yoga in the history of humankind, bestowed this unique and precious gift when she worked out how to give it en masse, on 5th May, 1970. Now, there are many thousands of us who have attained Self Realization in over a hundred countries. Shri Mataji has made it easy for us to achieve Self-Realization and the only demands made on the newly realized person is to listen to the Kundalini, to meditate regularly to become spiritually evolved beings and to be collective with other realized souls.
If you want to get Self Realization, you can do so here: http://www.sahajayoga.org/experienceitnow/default.asp.
Remember, just getting Self Realization is not enough. I strongly recommend attending Sahaja Yoga classes near you and to experience Kundalini awakening for yourself, for, as the old saying goes, the proof of the pudding is in the eating.

Nicely done… I liked the first paragraph the most. Refreshing way of talking about the genesis of individuals vis-a-vis the Kundalini.
