Activity list for my 3 Year old

Here are few activities that are favorites of my 3 year old. Here’s the list of children activities he did when he was younger. I hope this is helpful. Please feel free to recommend more types of activities that I can do with my son.

  • Reading Books

This is one of the favorite activities. There is a glitter in my son’s eyes as soon as I suggest that I will read to him. We still get lot of books from the library.

  • Household Chores

I let my son help me with following household chores:
    putting clothes in washing machine,
    taking out clothes from dryer,
transferring cutlery from dishwasher to the cutlery drawer,
arranging table mats and cutlery for everyone on the table before meals,
cooking where fire is not involved such as salads, cake batter and so on,
raking leaves in the fall and helping his father in yard work.

  • Activity Books

I have him working on 5-6 types of activity books at a time. I let my son do a page from each in a day. I like Kumon and BrainQuest Activity books. I have following types of activity books that he has been working on: dot-to-dot, mazes, tracing, cutting, coloring, tracing uppercase, thinking skills, sticker books, big fat comprehensive activity books and so on.

  • Creating Alphabet Book

My son has glued an alphabet in each page of big paper. Now, we go through a magazine and he will choose a picture that he might want to glue. I’ll cut it for him. He has to name the picture and tell me the beginning letter and then glue the picture in the right alphabet page. I’ll write the name of the picture under each, spelling the word aloud.

  • Creating Number Book

My son will color a number and glue it on a page. Then he will put that number of stickers on that page. For example, he will color number 33 and then I’ll cut it for him and then he will glue it on a page. Then he will put 33 stickers on that page.

  • Making Patterns

I recommend any or all of the following. These are his favorites: Block Buddies, MightyMind and Magnetic Pattern Blocks.

  • Puzzles

These are very precious in our house as my son doesn’t need me for hours while working on puzzles. This is when I get my breaks.

  • Making Birthday & Thank You Cards

I let my son make cards for his friends and relatives. We try to send handmade birthday cards to everyone. He chooses to do different things such as color, paint, glue, sticker, stamping, use feathers, shells, colored rice, sand, stencil, and so on.

  • Tracing Letters and Numbers

We love Wikki stix alphabet tracing and Wikki stix number tracing.

  • Board Games

Just like every family, board games are favorite for us too. We enjoy the following ones: Chutes and Ladders, Candyland, Hi Ho Cherry Ho, Number Bingo, Honey Bee Tree, Memory and playing cards

  • Clock

Melissa & Doug wooden shape sorting clock has helped my son to learn various shapes very well. Also, he has learnt the fact that there are 12 numbers on the clock and it has a big hand and a small hand.

  • Art & Craft Kit

I keep buying various art and craft kits of him such as making puppets, peel and stick, and so on.

  • Search & Find Books
  • Animal Babies Pairing Puzzle, Opposites Pairing Puzzle
  • Rhyming Puzzle
  • Play Dough
  • Moon Sand
  • Lego

I download building instructions for simple structures from Lego website.

  • Walk

We love to go for walks. While walking we will talk, ask riddles, sometimes we will take a magnet so that he can check what attracts a magnet and we play games such as the following. Name an animal and ask my son to think of something else that begins with the same letter as the animal name.

  • Chalk

We trace each other and draw on the driveway. We also play following game: write a letter of the alphabet on each square of a hopscotch grid. Toss a stone on a square, hop on the square and say a word that begins with the letter in that square. Then pick up the stone and hop back.

    Shruti,
This is a wonderful list! You are doing such a great job with your son. He is very blessed to have such a kind, caring, hardworking mother. I cannot think of one thing to add to your program at this time. I am looking forward to sharing Sonlight with you.
