Here is a visual tour of our field trips this academic year.
International Travels: Athens, Corinth, Nafplio, Delphi, Mycenae, Olympia, and Meteora in Greece; Chandigarh, Amritsar, and Dharamshala in India; Vienna and Salzburg in Austria, Cabella Ligure in Italy, Zermatt in Switzerland.
California Science Center: We spent a day at this museum and our favorite was the science behind Pixar exhibition.
Swan Lake Ballet: We saw the performance of Swan Lake at Tupelo High School.
Huntsville Space and Rocket Center: We spent two days visiting this museum and it was so worth it.
3 Origami Classes with Mrs. Kyoko Okamoto. She taught origami to homeschoolers and each class was at least an hour long. She taught them to make crane, balloon, rose with leaves, ninja star, heart and samurai hat. The result of these origami classes is that Kabir is obsessed with origami especially his heart is set at making 1000 paper cranes. He has already made more than 200 paper cranes.
New Orleans: We spent a day at the National World War II museum in New Orleans. It is huge and it is really worth spending an entire day over there. Next day, we visited the museum of New Orleans learning the history of New Orleans and, we also visited Audobon Butterfly Garden and Insectarium where the boys enjoyed eating bugs.
Introduction of Japanese Culture with Mrs. Kyoko Okamoto. She showed us photos of her family in Japan, Japanese currency and books in Japanese language. We made miso soup and rice ball with her. We learnt to use chopsticks. It was just so wonderful that the boys are really hoping to visit Japan one day.
Deer Dissection with Mr. Nate. Amit took both boys and all three of them enjoyed thoroughly learning deer anatomy. I was glad that I wasn’t with them. To me, it’s brutal!
Thanksgiving Meal with Homeschoolers.
The Shakespeare Mix-up performance by Pied Piper Players. This play was hard for Arjun but surprisingly, Kabir really enjoyed it. We enjoyed it too.
Backyard Astronomy with Mr. Bob Swanson. Bob is the most enthusiastic teacher I have met. We learn so much from him each time. The mobile planetarium is just perfect for kids.
Food Webs and Owl Pellet Dissection with Ms. Brandy Watson.
Piano Master Class with Mark Valenti at Blue Mountain College. Mark Valenti is a concert pianist from Chicago.
Three Rivers Landfill in Pontotoc. This place is just so awesome and educational! It made me proud of our government that takes care of environment but it made me sad to realize how much trash we create!
Decorate a Pumpkin contest at Lee County Library.
Frog Dissection with Ms. Brandy Watson. Arjun refused to participate in this event but he observed while Kabir dissected.
Arizona and Utah: We visited Saguaro National Park, Sedona, Horseshoe Bend, Grand Canyon and Bryce Canyon.
Hernando de Soto Encampment at Natchez Trace Parkway
5 Homeschool Days in Memphis Zoo: Each class is 2-hour long. Topics covered: Tundra, Animal defenses (unique ways animals attack and defend), Properties of Matter (how do temperature, density, volume and buoyancy affect animals) and 2 Dissection Days. Kabir did shark and drum fish dissection, and Arjun did earthworm dissection and owl pellet.
Scavanger Hunt at Natchez Trace Parkway.
Oren Dunn Museum: We got a guided tour of the museum and also, we enjoyed Colors of our South Exhibition.
Road Trip to Texas: We visited many sites on the way and back from Texas.
Berlin in Germany: We spent a week in Berlin. We did everything related to World War I and II and Cold War. Arjun created a travel journal about our trip to Berlin. After Berlin, we spent a weekend in Cabella Ligure in Italy.
