The Williams-Sonoma Collection: DessertThe The Williams-Sonoma Collection: DessertThe Williams-Sonoma Collection: Dessert is another book which is a gift from my sister-in-law, Shikha. Thank you, Shikha for so many wonderful gifts.

I haven’t yet tried many recipes from this book. I tried Bread Pudding but I am not so fond of it. Also, I tried Flourless Chocolate Torte but I prefer Flourless Chocolate Cake from Williams-Sonoma Mastering: Cakes, Frostings & Fillings (Williams Sonoma Mastering). Trifle recipe from this book is very good and Tiramisu is the best one I have ever had. Tiramisu recipe from this book makes it worth buying it.

Williams-Sonoma Mastering: Cakes, Frostings & Fillings (Williams Sonoma Mastering)

My sister-in-law, Shikha gave me the book, Williams-Sonoma Mastering: Cakes, Frostings & Fillings (Williams Sonoma Mastering)Williams-Sonoma Mastering: Cakes, Frostings & Fillings (Williams Sonoma Mastering). This is the best cake book I have come across.

The book teaches you all the basic techniques to make a cake. Also, it shows all the recipes step-by-step. If you can follow the instructions to the word, there’s no way you can mess it up. Above all, the recipes are so good that everybody who eats these cakes think that it’s made by a professional. So far, I have tried Pound cake, Angel Food cake, Apple cake, Carrot cake, Orange Chiffon cake, Brown-Butter Hazelnut cakes, Flourless Chocolate cake, Black Forest cake and Boston Cream Pie. Orange Chiffon cake is much better than the Angel food cake especially if you want to use it for making Trifle. This book accompanied with Essentials of Baking: Recipes and Techniques for Successful Home Baking (William Sonoma Essentials) is an asset for anyone who loves to bake. Baking was never fun without these two books.

Essentials of Baking: Recipes and Techniques for Successful Home Baking (William Sonoma Essentials)

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I have always been fascinated by baking but could never dare to bake a cake that didn’t require cake mix. Essentials of Baking: Recipes and Techniques for Successful Home Baking (Williams-Sonoma Essentials)Essentials of Baking changed that. Thanks to this book, I’m proficient with basic baking techniques. It really helps that the techniques such as “folding” or “whipping cream” are illustrated with photographs.

My successful ventures from this book are banana bread, pizza (comes out so good that we don’t feel like buying it from Papa Johns anymore), blueberry pie, creme brulee, flan, corn bread, cheesecake, triple chocolate chip cookies (the best), blueberry cheesecake squares with hazelnut crust, pecan pie and baklava. If we didn’t have to watch our waistlines, I would try more recipes sooner rather than later.
