The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Last week, we read “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. It was a huge success! We read the book from Monday to Sunday. This Thursday, when we went to the library for the story time, the theme was “The Very Hungry Caterpillar”. So, it was just perfect!

Each day, we ate the food that caterpillar eats! Arjun couldn’t wait for Saturday. It was worth the wait as both Kabir and Arjun enjoyed the Saturday feast! Arjun took a while to put the Saturday feast in the right sequence. He had to refer to the book after each item. On Sunday, I gave them basil leaf and lettuce to eat. I rolled some cheese in lettuce thinking that it might be more appetizing but Arjun unrolled the lettuce, ate the cheese and walked away. He did have the basil.

Also, we made a life-cycle of butterfly. I find most of these ideas on Pinterest. We watched a short video of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” on Netflix.

We created a butterfly and caterpillar magnet. I found the templates for butterfly and caterpillar online.

We did a few hungry caterpillar worksheets too. We did the Very Hungry Caterpillar puzzle and played the game too.

The highlight was we bought a few caterpillars online and we watched them grow into a cocoon and then butterfly. We actually fed orange and watermelon to our butterflies. We released the butterflies into the environment on Sunday.
