Are You My Mother?

This week, Arjun and I read “Are You My Mother?” by P. D. Eastman. We are getting so used to “one book a week” theme for our school activities. We are loving and thoroughly enjoying it. It’s such a huge success in our household that I wish I had done the same with Kabir when he was little.

We did the sequencing activity and animal babies puzzle everyday after reading the book. By the end of the week, Arjun was doing both of them perfectly.

We made a nest, colored our plastic egg with markers and made a bird. Kabir’s nest broke as we tried to put it in a tree to see how close it was to the real nest. While doing so, it broke but we found the remnant of a real bird nest. That gave us some ideas and his second nest came out very close to the original nest as can be seen in the photo below.

I made a spaghetti nest for the boys and the meatball was the egg. They enjoyed it a lot.

  1. This is fantastic! I’m planning a lot more creative-comprehension type activities this year and I’m so excited about it! I think it really takes learning and understanding to the next level. So excited to see other homeschoolers moving beyond the page 🙂
